Have you ever bought two pieces of IT gear only to discover that they do not work together? Sure, they were supposed to, but in practice they did not. Well, this website is all about discovering this before you buy the stuff, saving yourself dollars and tons of frustration.

Sharing information has to flow in two directions in order to be useful to everybody. Please share your experiences here: it will be useful to somebody at some stage.

What is covered?

isITcompatible lists the compatibility of IT equipment and software. IT today reaches far into everyday life, so apart from the standard IT stuff such as routers, switches, hubs, computers, storage devices, software etc, you will also find compatibility information on IT-related equipment such as Hi-Fi equipment, video players etc.

How do I check the compatibility of two items?

On the home page, choose the manufacturer and product in Item 1 tab, then manufacturer and product in Item 2 tab and then click the "Compatibility" tab. You can also search for compatibility of any product by a particular manufacturer (choose "Any product" option in "Product" selection) or by functionality (choose the appropriate category in the "Function" selection).

For example, you could check the compatibility of all Sonos equipment with all switches by choosing "Sonos" as the manufacturer in Item 1 tab and "Switch" as the function in Item 2 tab. Then click the "Compatibility" tab.

Can I leave comments on the compatibility of two items?

Sure. Choose the two items in Item 1 and Item 2 tabs and then click the "Compatibility" tab. Any known compatibilities will be listed. To add your own comment click the button.

The manufacturer of the product I want to comment on is not listed

In Item 1 or Item 2 tabs click the button next to the "Manufacturer" selection. You will see the list of all the manufacturers. Click the button to add a manufacturer.

The manufacturer of the product is listed, but the product is not

In Item 1 or Item 2 tabs choose the manufacturer. Click the button next to the "Product" selection. You will see the list of all the products for that manufacturer. Click the button to add a product. Once both products are recorded, you can leave comments on their compatibility as described above.

Can I leave comments on a particular product?

Yes! Site users will be interested not only if equipment X works with Y, but also whether X or Y are good products. Your experiences (good or bad) will help prospective purchasers make better decisions.

To leave a comment, in Item 1 or Item 2 tabs choose the Manufacturer and the product and then click the button.

Can I edit product details once they have been entered?

You can edit product details of the products that you have entered yourself: choose the manufacturer and the product in Item 1 or Item 2 tabs and then click the button. Click the product name in the list and you will be able to edit the details. If you want to contribute to the database by being able to edit product details entered by others, email us and we may decide to upgrade you to the editor status.

Can I edit manufacturer details once they have been entered?

Click the manufacturer name in the list and you will be able to edit the details. What does the button do?

Clicking it resets the manufacturer, the product and the functionality to "Any".

How can I contact the other site users?

To send an email to other site users, click on the user's name which is found to the left of any comments they made. Note that your own email address will be sent in the email.

Do I have to register to use the site?

No. You can use the site without registering, but if you want to leave comments, add products and manufacturers, describe your own experiences with particular products or subscribe to email notification, you will have to register. Registration is quick and easy and once you have created your own record, you can select precisely what do you want to be notified about. We hate spam as much as you do and the last thing we want is to annoy you with unwanted emails. It is up to you to decide what notifications you want. You can always change your notification selections at any time.

Is the site moderated?

Not actively. Once you leave a comment or an opinion, it will appear immediately to all site users. This carries with it some responsibility: please be objective in your comments and refrain from using inappropriate language. You may be dissatisfied with a piece of equipment, but please express your feelings in a suitably nice way.

Each comment has an "Alert moderator" link which you can use if you judge a particular comment inappropriately phrased. Such comments will be removed by the moderator if judged to be inappropriate.

How can I become an editor?

Normal users can edit their own entries, but not those of other users. If you are really interested in helping to keep this site as clean and useful as possible, email us and we may decide to upgrade you to the editor status which will enable you to edit other users' entries.
